Origin
The Alocasia Dragon Scale Albo Variegated, often recognised as the dragon scale plant, originally hails from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. It belongs to the Araceae family and is a popular member of the Alocasia genus. These plants are primarily found in areas with high humidity, such as Malaysia and the Philippines.
Characteristics
The Alocasia Dragon Scale Albo Variegated is distinctive for its green-white leaves that have a scale-like pattern, resulting from where the name 'dragon scale plant' is derived. The plants have thick, sturdy stems, and the leaves can grow up to 40 centimetres in length. The leaves are heart-shaped, featuring contrasting silver veining.
Care
Proper care for the Alocasia Dragon Scale Albo Variegated requires a bright, indirect light source. Due to its tropical nature, it also needs a high level of humidity and should be watered weekly. The soil needs to be well-draining and dry out between waterings, but at the same time, the plant should never entirely dry out, as this can result in brown leaf tips and leaf drop. The plant prefers a moderate to warm temperature and needs to be protected from draughts and fluctuations in temperature.
