Origin
The Begonia Rex Escargot, also known as Escargot Begonia, has its origin in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa and America. This exotic plant was first introduced and cultivated in Europe in the 19th century, particularly in England.
Characteristics
The Begonia Rex-Escargot is one of the most distinctive members of the Begonia genus because of its unique leaf shape. The plant has large dark green leaves that form lush spirals, almost like a snail shell - hence the name 'Escargot'. These leaves are often adorned with vibrant patterns and colourings of purple, silver and pink, depending on the variety.
Care
The Begonia Rex-Escargot is a pot plant that requires moderate sunlight and regular watering. The plant thrives in a location with bright, indirect light and the temperature should always be above 15 degrees Celsius. Water should be given when the top layer of the soil feels dry, but overwatering should be avoided as this can cause root rot. It is also advisable to maintain high humidity for this plant.
