Origin
The Calathea Crimson is a species from the Marantaceae family, native to Central and South America. One commonly finds the plant in the tropical rainforests of this region. The Calathea is also known under the name 'Prayer Plant'.
Characteristics
The Calathea Crimson is distinguished by its striking, colourful leaves. This plant has a compact growth fashion and typically reaches an average height of 30 to 60 centimetres. The leaves are rich in red and white patterns on the top side, while the underside has a deep purple colour. A unique characteristic of the Calathea is that its leaves fold up in the evening and reopen at sunrise.
Care
The Calathea Crimson has specific requirements for its location and care. It's important to place the plant in a spot with indirect light as direct sunlight can burn the leaves. The plant requires a high humidity level, so regular spraying with water is recommended. Also, providing sufficient water is essential; the potting soil must never completely dry out. The ideal temperature range for the Calathea is between 16 and 27 degrees Celsius.
