Origin
The Skimmia japonica 'Perosa' originates from the East Asian continent, specifically in areas such as Japan, China and the Himalayas. It is a popular plant in gardens and parks around the world, thanks to its beauty and resilience in various climates.
Characteristics
Skimmia japonica 'Perosa', also known as Japanese skimmia, is an evergreen, shrub-like plant that can grow up to 1.5 meters in height. The plant produces fragrant clusters of flowers in various shades of pink and white from spring to autumn. The leaves are leathery and dark green, the fruits are red berries that remain on the plant during autumn and winter.
Care
The Skimmia japonica 'Perosa' prefers a semi-shaded to shaded spot, ideally in humus-rich, acidic soil. If the soil is not acidic, it may be beneficial to fertilise it. The plant requires good drainage to prevent root rot, but it also does not appreciate overly dry soil. Pruning is generally not necessary, unless the plant becomes too large or needs to be kept in shape.
