Origin
The Alocasia Scalprum is a plant species that is originally found in various regions of Southeast Asia. This plant is part of the Araceae family, better known as the Arum family. The wild variants of this species often grow in tropical rainforests, particularly in the area extending from India to New Guinea.
Characteristics
Typical of the Alocasia Scalprum are the elongated, deeply incised leaves with sharp points on a sturdy stem. The leaves are green and can have a metallic lustre under certain light conditions. This type can reach a height of between 60 to 80 centimetres, depending on the care conditions. The blooming of the Alocasia Scalprum is very sporadic and is rarely seen in temperate climates.
Care
To guarantee optimal growth of the Alocasia Scalprum, the plant should be placed in a light location, but not in direct sunlight. The soil should be consistently moist, but overwatering must be avoided to prevent rotting of the roots. In addition, this plant prefers a high relative humidity. Although the Alocasia Scalprum can tolerate temperatures up to 10 degrees Celsius, a temperature between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius is ideal.
