Origin
The Doryopteris pedata, also known as the Hand Fern, is a type of tropical fern origination from Central and South America. It can be found in countries such as Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina. This plant is often seen in rainforests, where it feels most at home in and around trees.

Characteristics
Doryopteris pedata is a distinctive fern due to its unique leaf structure. The leaves are hand-shaped and consist of three to four leaflets. These leaflets can reach a length of 15 to 20 centimetres. The leaf stems are dark-coloured, almost black, and contrast with the bright green leaves. The leaves feel smooth and somewhat leathery.

Care
The care of Doryopteris pedata requires high, constant humidity and a stable, warm temperature. The plant thrives in partial shade. Too much sun can scorch the leaves. The soil must be kept constantly moist, but there should be no water remaining in the pot as this can cause the roots to rot. Regular fertilisation during the growing season contributes to the growth and well-being of the plant.
