Origin
The Phalaenopsis Andorra is a popular species of orchid originally from Southeast Asia, specifically the Philippines and Indonesia. This plant grows in the wild in rainforests where it exhibits an epiphytic lifestyle, meaning it grows on other plants without causing them harm.
Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis Andorra, also known as the 'Moth Orchid', is characterised by its large, oval leaves that have a dark green colour. It is known for its striking flowers which can be a purple-white colour and often display a pattern of stripes or spots. The flower clusters can contain a large number of flowers that can bloom for months, particularly in winter and early spring.
Care
The Phalaenopsis Andorra requires specific care to be able to bloom. Although the plant is adapted to a tropical climate, it thrives best at temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius and high humidity. Direct sunlight can damage the leaf, so this species of orchid fares best in bright, indirect light. The plant needs to be watered regularly, but sparingly, to prevent the roots from rotting.
