Origin
The Gynura Aurantiaca, also known as the Purple Velvet Plant, has its origin in Java and Cambodia. It comes from the family of Asteraceae, or the composite family. This plant is native to the tropical regions from Java to Cambodia and is often found in subtropical forests.
Characteristics
Gynura Aurantiaca is an elegant indoor plant known for its velvety leaves with a rich purple colour on the underside. The leaves on the top are green while the underside is intensively purple. The plant grows quickly and reaches approximately 60 to 90 cm in height. The flowers are small and are not noticeable, but the plant rarely blooms indoors.
Care
The Purple Velvet Plant grows best in light shade and temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, and requires high humidity. This plant needs to be watered regularly, but too much water can cause root rot. It is recommended to keep the soil slightly moist. For the best growth, the plant should be fertilised every two weeks during the growing season. Regular pruning of the plant can help promote a full, bushy growth and keep the plant at a manageable size.
