Origin
The Fittonia Verschaffeltii mix, also known as Nerve Plant, originates from the rainforest of Peru. Here, this plant grows in the shaded undergrowth of the forest. The plant owes its nickname to the Belgian botanist Verschaffelt, who introduced the species to the botanical world in the 19th century.
Characteristics
The Fittonia Verschaffeltii mix is a low, creeping plant. The most striking feature of this plant are the prominently coloured veins which contrast with the otherwise green leaves. The leaves have an oval shape and the texture is leathery. The colour of the veins can vary from white to pink and red, depending on the specific variety.
Care
The Fittonia Verschaffeltii mix requires high humidity, similar to its original rainforest environment. In addition, the plant needs indirect sunlight and the soil should always be moist, but not soaked. It is also important to keep the plant indoors at temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius, as it is not frost-resistant.
