Origin
The Pilea glaucophylla ‘Greyzy’, also known as the ‘Silver Pancake Plant’, originates from the tropical regions of South America. This plant is a member of the Urticaceae family and is strongly associated with a warm and humid climate. Naturally, this colourful plant grows in the lower layers of the jungle, where it finds optimal conditions to thrive.
Characteristics
The Pilea glaucophylla 'Greyzy' is recognisable by its round, greyish leaves with a subtle sheen. This plant has a compact growth and generally does not grow taller than 30 cm. The leaves are rather large in relation to the size of the plant, making it a visually appealing species. Also noteworthy are the small, cream-coloured flowers that the plant can produce.
Care
The Pilea glaucophylla 'Greyzy' likes a bright location, but not direct sunlight. Drying out is catastrophic for this plant, so ensure the soil remains slightly damp at all times. It is wise to fertilise the plant regularly, particularly in the spring and summer. In winter, the Pilea glaucophylla 'Greyzy' can be placed in a slightly cooler spot, but it should not go below 12 degrees, as this plant inherently comes from a warm climate.
