Origin
The Phalaenopsis Infinity is part of the Orchidaceae family, which is mainly known in Southeast Asia. The name Phalaenopsis comes from the Greek 'Phalaina', meaning moth, and 'opsis', meaning resemblance, as the flowers resemble exotic butterflies in the night. The 'Infinity' species is a hybrid variant, specially cultivated for its distinctive characteristics.
Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis Infinity is known for its long flowering period and the abundance of flowers it produces. This variety has white flowers with a delicate pink blush in the middle. The flowers are approximately 7-10 cm in diameter and grow on a stalk that develops from the centre of the leaf rosette. The leaves are thick and fleshy, having a dark green colour.
Care
The Phalaenopsis Infinity requires indirect, bright light, it does not benefit from direct sunlight. Additionally, the plant needs to be kept warm, the ideal temperature ranges between 20-25°C. Watering should be done moderately - wait until the top layer of the potting soil feels dry before watering again. It is recommended to lightly fertilise the plant in the spring and autumn to encourage flowering.
