Origin
The Pellaea rotundifolia, also known as the Button Fern, has its origin in New Zealand. The plant primarily grows in cool, damp forests. This species is one of approximately 60 species belonging to the Pellaea genus.
Characteristics
Characteristics of the Pellaea rotundifolia include small, round, dark green leaves. The leaves are attached to slender, graceful stems. This fern can reach a height of about 40 centimetres. Unlike many other ferns, the Pellaea rotundifolia not only enjoys shade but can also grow in full sun.
Care
The Pellaea rotundifolia has more specific care requirements than other house plants. The plant needs a moderate amount of water and should never stand in water. The soil needs to be well-drained. The plant can be fertilised with a water-soluble fertiliser during the growing season. Regular pruning keeps the plant compact. A light location, but not in direct sunlight, is ideal for the Pellaea rotundifolia.
