Origin
The Thymus 'Doone Valley', better known as the Doone Valley thyme, is a herbaceous plant originally from the United Kingdom. This specific variant of thyme was first cultivated by Doone Valley Plants nursery in North Devon, hence the name.
Characteristics
The Thymus 'Doone Valley' is an evergreen, low ground cover that can grow up to 5 centimetres high. The plant has glossy, dark green leaves with golden spots that give off a lemon scent when bruised. From June to July, the plant bears small, light pink flowers. The Doone Valley thyme is frost hardy and highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects.
Care
The Thymus 'Doone Valley' thrives best in full sunlight and requires well-draining soil to be able to grow. Generally, this plant needs little water, but during dry periods it should be watered regularly. Although the Doone Valley thyme is resistant to common diseases, vigilant attention should be paid to possible infestation by fungi and pests. Regular pruning helps keep the plant compact and healthy.
