Origin
The Fagus sylvatica Rohan Weeping, also known as the weeping beech, is a cultivar of the common European beech (Fagus sylvatica). This specific variant originated in the Czech Republic, thanks to the experiments of the celebrated Czech tree growers, the Rohan family, in the late 19th century. The plant has since spread to other parts of Europe and North America.

Characteristics
The Fagus sylvatica Rohan Weeping is a deciduous tree known for its dramatic, hanging branches and dark red-brown leaves. This tree can reach heights of 4-8 metres and almost the same width. The leaves have wavy edges and show a pink tint in the spring, which changes into a dark red in the summer and then into a rich copper colour in the autumn. The tree produces small, triangular nuts that are hidden under a prickly husk.

Care
Care for the Fagus sylvatica Rohan Weeping includes providing a well-drained, acidic to neutral soil and a sunny to partial shade location. While the tree is reasonably drought tolerant, regular watering is important for optimal growth and development. The tree requires little to no pruning, but can be pruned after flowering in late spring if necessary to maintain its shape. Unlike most trees, the weeping beech is somewhat tolerant of air pollution, making it a good choice for urban environments.
