Origin
The Juniperus squamata 'Meyeri', also known as the Blue Juniper, has its origin in Asia and belongs to the Cypress family. Its origin is mainly within the cool and mountainous areas of Afghanistan and China, but has now spread worldwide due to its popularity as an ornamental shrub.
Characteristics
The Juniperus squamata 'Meyeri' is characterized by its beautiful silver-blue needles and its unique growth pattern. This plant grows slowly, forming a low-lying, sprawling shrub of around 1 metre in height and 2 metres in width over the years. The shrub retains its colour throughout the year, making it a garden attraction in every season.
Care
The care of the Juniperus squamata 'Meyeri' is relatively simple. The plant prefers a location in full sun or light shade and well-draining soil. During dry periods, the plant needs extra water, but in general the plant is drought resistant and requires little maintenance. Trimming can be done, but it is not necessary. However, to maintain a compact form, light trimming can be done annually.
