Origin
The Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Sungold', also known as the Japanese cypress 'Sungold', originates from East Asia, mainly Japan. The Chamaecyparis genus comprises eight species that predominantly grow in the temperate climate zones of the northern hemisphere. The 'Sungold' is a cultivar of the Chamaecyparis pisifera species, specially grown for its unique characteristics and garden value.

Characteristics
The Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Sungold' is an evergreen conifer that stands out because of its golden yellow foliage. This dwarf conifer has a compact and round growth pattern and eventually reaches a height of about 1-1.5 metres. The leaves are miniature-like and scale-shaped, forming closely packed branches together. This plant does not produce noticeable flowers, but the golden glow of the foliage creates a spectacular visual effect in the garden.

Care
Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Sungold' is relatively easy to care for. The plant requires well-drained and moist soil and a sunny to semi-shady location to maintain the brightest leaf colour.
