Origin
The Juncus effusus 'Spiralis', better known as Corkscrew Rush, is seen in the wild in wet locations in both North America and Europe. It is a plant species belonging to the Juncaceae family. This plant is also commonly found in parts of New Zealand and Japan.
Characteristics
The Juncus effusus 'Spiralis' is an evergreen perennial plant with a unique shape. The stems of this plant curl in spirals, hence its nickname Corkscrew Rush. The plant does not have any real flowers but develops small, brown seed pods. The distinctly spiral-shaped stems, which can grow up to 60 cm in height, are particularly noticeable.
Care
For the care of the Juncus effusus 'Spiralis', it's important to know that the plant loves full sun or partial shade. Like all Juncus species, this variant can grow in both muddy as well as regular garden soil. It is good to note that the plant is most commonly found in moist to wet conditions and therefore also requires regular watering in the garden. For optimal growth, it is recommended to fertilise the plant at least once a year.
