Origin
The Pennisetum 'Red Head', also known as Fountain Grass, originates from the warm areas of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. This type of grass naturally grows in open, sunny locations. Due to its resistance to drought, the 'Red Head' is often found in areas with a dry climate and minimal rainfall.
Characteristics
The Pennisetum 'Red Head' is characterized by its graceful appearance and beautiful red plumes. It grows in a dense, bushy form and can reach a height of 90 cm to 1.2 m. The flowering of this type of grass begins in late summer to early autumn with plumes that can range from dark red to burgundy. Despite its exotic origin, the 'Red Head' is hardy and can withstand temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius.
Care
The care of the Pennisetum 'Red Head' is relatively straightforward and low-maintenance. This plant prefers sunlight but can also tolerate a bit of shade. It can cope with various types of soil, but it prefers well-drained soil and it is recommended to water it regularly. Fertilising the 'Red Head' is not necessary, but it can promote growth and flowering. In the spring, before the new growing season, the 'Red Head' can be pruned back to the ground to make way for new growth.
