Origin
The Carex oshimensis 'Evercolor Eversheen', also known as Japanese sedge, is an ornamental grass that originates from the forest edges and hill lands of Japan. It is part of the Cyperaceae family, which consists of around 90 genera and 5000 species in total. Often, Carex plants are used in landscape architecture because of their resistance to various climates and attractive appearance.
Characteristics
The Carex oshimensis 'Evercolor Eversheen' is characterized by its gold-yellow leaves with green edges and its bushy, dense growth manner. It typically reaches a height of 30 to 40 centimetres and a width of 30 centimetres. The plant forms dense tufts, which retain their leaves even in winter. The flower pattern consists of inconspicuous, small flowers that appear in the summer.
Care
The care of the Carex oshimensis 'Evercolor Eversheen' is relatively simple. The plant thrives well in a location in partial shade to shade, but can also survive in full sun, provided enough water is given. It prefers well-drained, sufficiently moist soil. Although this variant of Carex is relatively resistant to various diseases and pests, it is still recommended to provide the plant with fresh compost or manure in the spring to stimulate growth. It is not necessary to prune the plant, unless a more compact model is desired.
