Origin
The Carex oshimensis 'Evercolor Everlime' originally comes from East Asia. More specifically, the dusty low hills of Japan, or 'Osima Island', are the original home base of this graceful plant. The plant has only become popular in the world of gardening relatively recently, thanks to its striking leaves and its ability to thrive in various conditions.
Characteristics
As part of the sedge family, or 'Carex', the Carex oshimensis 'Evercolor Everlime' has a number of notable characteristics. The leaves are narrow, sharp, and bright green with a contrasting lime green edge, hence the name 'Everlime'. The plant typically reaches a height of 30 to 40 centimetres and has a compact, clump-shaped growth form. Although the flowers of this plant are not particularly striking, they add a subtle texture and colour to the overall presence of the 'Everlime'.
Care
Caring for the Carex oshimensis 'Evercolor Everlime' requires little effort, making it a popular choice for both novice and experienced gardeners. The plant prefers well-drained soil and a location in partial shade or full sun. It can also tolerate being planted in full shade, but this can affect the colour of the foliage. It is advisable to water the plant regularly, especially during dry periods, but it can also tolerate periods of drought. However, too much water can be harmful, so a good balance is required. Finally, this plant does not require specific feeding, but can benefit from an annual top dressing with compost.
