Origin
The Equisetum scirpoides, also known as the dwarf horsetail, is a fern-like plant native to North America and Europe. This plant predominately grows in damp, marshy places.
Characteristics
The Equisetum scirpoides is a perennial plant known for its distinctive stems. These are green, hollow and jointed, with black bands around the joints. Its false leaves stand in whorls around the stem and form a tight sheath. The plant grows roughly to a height of about 10-20 centimetres.
Care
Given the plant's origins in damp areas, it requires a constant supply of water. It grows best in full sun or partial shade. The soil in which the Equisetum scirpoides is planted should be a mix of sand, silt, and clay for optimal health and growth. While it is not necessary to prune the plant, it is recommended to regularly remove dead stems.
