Origin
The Euonymus japonicus 'Microphyllus Aureovariegatus', also known as the Variegated Japanese Spindle, has its origin in Japan. This variant is a cultivar, specifically cultivated for its striking characteristics. It is a hardy and evergreen shrub, often used for garden decoration in temperate climates.
Characteristics
The Japanese Spindle 'Microphyllus Aureovariegatus' is characterised by small, shiny, oval leaves, coloured in a striking green and gold combination. The plant grows shrub-like to a height of about one to one and a half metres. In the spring and summer, the plant develops small, inconspicuous green-yellow flowers. In the autumn, small, reddish fruits may appear on the plant.
Care
The Variegated Japanese Spindle thrives best in semi-shade to full sun and prefers a well-drained, humus-rich soil. This plant is drought tolerant and can therefore cope well with a period of drought, but regular watering is recommended. The shrub can be pruned in the spring to maintain its shape, but it is not necessary for the health or growth of the plant.
