It was brought to the West in the 19th century and has since spread to other parts of the world.
Characteristics
The Skimmia japonica 'Finchy' is an evergreen plant that can grow up to 90 centimetres tall. This shrub has a compact growth and is characterised by its dark green, leathery leaves. In the spring, the Finchy Skimmia produces clusters of fragrant, white flowers, followed by bright red berries in the autumn which often last into the winter. The berries appear when both male and female plants are present.
Care
Skimmia japonica 'Finchy' can grow in both full sun and semi-shade, but prefers a place in semi-shade. It requires well-drained soil with an acidic to neutral pH. This plant needs a moderate amount of water and it is recommended to water it regularly, but avoid saturating the soil.
