Origin
The Cyrtomium fortunei var. 'Clivicola', also known as the Fortune's Holly Fern, originates from East Asia. This evergreen fern is primarily found in areas such as Japan, China and Korea.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Cyrtomium fortunei var. 'Clivicola' are the dark green, leathery leaves that are centrally joined. This fern has a compact growth habit and generally reaches a height between 30 and 60 centimetres. The leaves are characterised by clear veins and edges that give a holly-like appearance, hence the nickname Holly Fern.
Care
Being relatively easy to care for, the Cyrtomium fortunei var. 'Clivicola' requires well-draining soil and a spot in partial to full shade. Although it is tolerant towards drought, it prefers evenly moist soil. This species is generally low in maintenance, although removal of old leaves will stimulate the growth of new leaves. It's possible to propagate the plant through spores in the late summer period.
