Origin
The Gaura lindheimeri Gaudi Light Pink, also known as gaura, is a herbaceous perennial that originally grows in the southern United States and Mexico. The plant often grows in open grasslands and on slopes exposed to full sun. The plant has been part of the native flora for generations and attracts a variety of pollinating insects with its beautiful flowers.
Characteristics
The Gaura lindheimeri Gaudi Light Pink is a compact plant that usually reaches a height of 30 to 60 centimetres. The plant displays its delicate, light pink flowers on graceful, long stems above the fern-like foliage throughout the summer. The flowers are butterfly-shaped and have a white centre. The stems of the plant are red in colour, offering a nice contrast to the light pink flowers.
Care
For optimal growth and flowering, the Gaura lindheimeri Gaudi Light Pink needs a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Soil that is too wet, especially in the winter, can harm the plant. During the growing season, from May to August, it may be useful to fertilise the plant monthly. Although the plant is drought tolerant, regular watering during dry periods will promote flowering. Finally, the plant can be pruned back after flowering to maintain compact growth and possibly stimulate reflowering.
