Origin
The Mandevilla (Dipladenia) Rio Grande Scarlet originally hails from Central and South America. It's a part of the Apocynaceae family. These plant species are found in many tropical and subtropical regions.
Characteristics
The Mandevilla Rio Grande Scarlet is characterised by its striking bright red, trumpet-shaped flowers, which stand in contrast to its glossy, dark green leaves. The plant has a climbing growth habit and can reach a height of 2 to 3 metres. Its blooming season runs from late spring until the first frost.
Care
The Mandevilla Rio Grande Scarlet is a hardy plant that needs sunlight to grow, although it also tolerates partial shade. Make sure the soil is well-draining to prevent waterlogging. Feed the plant weekly with a fertiliser for flowering plants during the growing season. In winter, the plant is better kept indoors, at a minimum temperature of around 13 °C. Regular pruning encourages denser growth and more flowers.
