Origin
The Echeveria 'Mexican Giant' is a plant species that originally comes from the semi-desert areas of Mexico. It belongs to the succulent family Crassulaceae and is one of the most popular Echeveria species. The Echeveria genus was named after the 18th-century Mexican botanical artist Atanasio Echeverría y Godoy.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Echeveria 'Mexican Giant' are the broad, fleshy, blue-grey leaves that grow in a rosette. The leaves can grow up to 30 cm long, making the 'Mexican Giant' larger than most other Echeveria species. During the summer, the plant produces long, curved flowering stems with pink-orange flowers that contrast with the blue-grey foliage.
Care
The care of the Echeveria 'Mexican Giant' is relatively easy, contributing to its popularity. Although the plant is resistant to dry conditions, regular watering is required for optimum growth. Full sun to partial shade is the ideal lighting and well-draining soil is essential to prevent root rot. During the winter months, it is advisable to reduce watering and not expose the plant to temperatures below 10°C.
