The planters in the Cortensteel collection are made from Corten steel, a metal alloy that is known for its warm, orange-brown shade. This characteristic colour develops during the rusting process: the planters are initially grey and will, depending on the weather and location, rust within a few months. This makes each planter unique. The finish of this planter is natural. The planter is delivered while it is in the rusting process and is therefore (partially) rusted. The rusting process can be accelerated by spraying the planter daily with a plant spray. During the first few months the rust may stain the tiles; this can be rinsed away daily, or the planter can be temporarily placed on a different surface during this initial period. Additionally, this planter is frost resistant, so it can remain outdoors during cold periods without being damaged.
