Origin
The Aeschynanthus 'Japhrolepis' XXL, sometimes known as the Lipstick Plant or the Climbing Gloxinia, is a tropical houseplant that has its origin in Asia. Many of its relatives are found in the rainforests of Malaysia, the Philippines, New Guinea and the Himalayas.
Characteristics
The Aeschynanthus 'Japhrolepis' XXL is a climbing plant that can grow up to the ceiling. This species has noticeably dark green leaves which are loosely grouped around the stems. In good growth conditions, the plant flowers with striking red flowers, which explains the nickname 'Lipstick Plant'. The blooming period of this plant is typically in the summer months and can last until early autumn.
Care
This plant has few demands on its care but does suffer from prolonged drought or direct sunlight. A place with a lot of indirect light is most ideal for the Aeschynanthus 'Japhrolepis' XXL. Although it should not be heavily watered, it is good to keep the soil lightly moist in between watering. The plant also has a preference for high humidity and may benefit from occasional misting.
