Origin
Araucaria heterophylla is an evergreen conifer from the Araucariaceae family. The species is native to Norfolk Island, an island in the Pacific Ocean situated between Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia. In the wild, the tree can reach a height of over 50 metres.

Characteristics
Araucaria heterophylla is recognisable by its symmetrical, horizontal branches and pyramidal growth habit. The young leaves are soft, scale-shaped and light green in colour, while older leaves become tougher and dark green. The trunk is straight and covered with grey, scaly bark. This conifer is often kept as an indoor or ornamental plant because of its decorative appearance.

Care
Araucaria heterophylla requires a bright spot, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. The plant thrives best at a moderate temperature and needs a well-draining, lightly moist substrate. Regular watering is necessary, but the roots must not stand in water. High humidity supports healthy growth.
