Origin
The Dracaena draco is a plant species native to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Madeira and parts of West Africa. In these regions, it naturally grows on rocky slopes and in dry forests. The plant is well adapted to a Mediterranean to subtropical climate. In its native range, Dracaena draco is sometimes regarded as a symbol due to its striking appearance.

Characteristics
Dracaena draco is a slow-growing, tree-like plant from the asparagus family. It is characterised by a thick, branched trunk and an umbrella-shaped crown of stiff, sword-shaped leaves. Older specimens can reach several metres in height and sometimes attain an impressive size. When the trunk or leaves are damaged, a reddish resin may be released, historically known as ‘dragon’s blood’. Small, fragrant white flowers appear in large clusters, followed by orange or red berries.

Care
Dracaena draco thrives in a bright location with warmth. The plant is drought-tolerant and prefers a well-draining, moderately fertile substrate. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Feed moderately during the growing season. Winters should be frost-free, as the plant is sensitive to low temperatures.
