Origin
The Ficus elastica 'Schrijveriana', also known as the Rubber Plant from the Mulberry family (Moraceae), has its origin in the regions of Southeast Asia and India. This evergreen tree was brought to Europe in the 17th century, after which it became popular as a house plant, especially during the Victorian era.

Characteristics
The Ficus elastica 'Schrijveriana' is characterised by its large, shiny, leather-like leaves that are dark green in colour with white stripes. The leaves can reach a length of up to 20 to 30 centimetres and are elliptical to oval in shape. The plant has a strong, upright growing habit and can reach a height of 30 metres under ideal conditions.

Care
The Ficus elastica 'Schrijveriana' generally requires little care, but prefers well-drained soil and plenty of indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves. The plant needs moderate watering, it is important to prevent it from becoming waterlogged. For optimal growth, a minimum temperature of 15 degrees Celsius is required. The plant can tolerate dry air, but the leaves should be dusted occasionally to enable them to breathe.
