Origin
The Philodendron bipennifolium 'Silver Violin', also known as 'Fiddle-leaf Philodendron', originates from the tropical rainforests of South America. This type of Philodendron can be found primarily in countries such as Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. The plant naturally occurs in humid, warm areas. In its natural environment, it often grows in the shadow of larger trees.
Characteristics
The unique, silver-coloured leaves that have the shape of a violin or fiddle, are a distinct feature of the Philodendron bipennifolium 'Silver Violin'. The plant has a climbing growth habit and can grow up to approximately 1.5 metres high. The leaves can reach 20-30 centimetres in length. In addition, the plant has an air-purifying effect and thereby contributes to a healthier living environment.
Care
The Philodendron bipennifolium 'Silver Violin' prefers a light to half-shaded location, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. Moist soil is important, but overwatering can lead to root rot. Therefore, it is advisable to let the soil dry out slightly between watering. During the growth period, in the spring and summer, it is recommended to feed once a month with a plant food. In cooler months, watering should be reduced. The ideal temperature for the 'Silver Violin' ranges between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius.
