Origin
The Acer palmatum 'Fire Glow', also known as the Japanese maple, has its origin in East Asia. This is particularly in Japan, China, and Korea, hence the common name Japanese maple. The plant is known for its high ornamental value and is used worldwide in gardens and parks for its lavish and colourful foliage.
Characteristics
The Acer palmatum 'Fire Glow' is a compact, multi-branched shrub that grows about 3 to 4 meters high. It is distinguished by its deep red leaves that transform into a vibrant burning red colour in the autumn. The leaves are palmate with seven to nine pointed, deeply incised lobes. In spring, the plant produces inconspicuous, purplish flowers followed by noticeable, red fruits.
Care
The Acer palmatum 'Fire Glow' prefers a location in semi-shade to full sun and requires well-drained soil. Although the plant can tolerate some drought, it grows best with regular watering. When pruning, it is wise to keep the overall shape of the plant in mind and only remove dead or overhanging branches. To maintain its brilliant colour, it is recommended not to expose the plant to extreme heat, cold, or strong winds.
