Origin
The Aglaonema 'Madonna', also known as the Chinese evergreen, has its roots in Southeast Asia. The plant grows in the wild in the tropical rainforest, where it is humid and shady. This natural environment has contributed to the development of the plant's unique characteristics, which make it a desirable houseplant today.
Characteristics
This evergreen plant is known for its striking, glossy leaves, which often show a combination of green and silver or white. The leaves of the Aglaonema 'Madonna' are oval in shape and reach a length of 15 centimetres. The plant itself can reach a height of 50 centimetres. This plant does not have flowers and therefore relies mainly on its leaves to capture light.
Care
The Aglaonema 'Madonna' prefers indirect light, but can also grow in low light areas. The plant grows best in warm conditions with a high level of air humidity, similar to its natural environment. The soil in which the plant is placed must be well-drained, and the top 2-3 cm of the soil should dry out between watering. Feeding the plant with a balanced, liquid fertiliser once a month during the growing season also helps to promote growth. Like other houseplants, it is important to regularly check the appearance of the Aglaonema 'Madonna' for signs of disease or pests.
