Origin
Acer palmatum 'Jerre Schwartz' is a cultivar of the Japanese maple. This variety was selected from the species Acer palmatum and was developed in the United States during the second half of the twentieth century. Acer palmatum originates from Japan, Korea, and parts of China.

Characteristics
Acer palmatum 'Jerre Schwartz' is a slow-growing, compact shrub to small tree. It is notable for its deeply lobed, palmate leaves, which emerge red-purple in spring. During summer, the foliage matures to a bronze-green shade and turns bright orange-red in autumn. The plant typically reaches a mature height of between 1.5 and 2 metres. This cultivar has a broadly upright growth habit.

Care
Acer palmatum 'Jerre Schwartz' performs best in a humus-rich, well-draining soil. The plant does not tolerate prolonged drought or waterlogged conditions. Protection from strong winds reduces the risk of leaf scorch. It generally tolerates a position in partial shade well. Pruning is best carried out after leaf fall or in early spring.
