Origin
The Bucida buceras 'Shady Lady', also known as the black olive tree, originates from the tropical regions of America, particularly from Florida, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Central America and the north of South America. This tree can also be found in subtropical areas of the United States, such as Texas and California.

Characteristics
The Bucida buceras 'Shady Lady' is an evergreen tree renowned for its striking, dense canopy. The tree can reach a height of 9 to 12 metres, and has a rounded crown that can become as wide as the tree's height. The leaves are dark green in colour and have a glossy appearance. The tree produces small, unremarkable flowers, followed by small black fruits that resemble olives.

Care
The Bucida buceras 'Shady Lady' is relatively low-maintenance and is drought-resistant, making it ideal for landscapes with a low water need. The tree grows best in full sun and in well-drained soil. While this tree prefers moist soil, it can also survive dry periods. It is a slow-growing tree, which requires pruning every two to three years to maintain its shape and promote health.
