Origin
The Euphorbia ingens, also known as the Cowboy Cactus, is a type of cactus originally from South Africa. The natural distribution area of this plant extends over sunny, dry areas, from the deserts and steppes to the hills and mountains.

Characteristics
The Euphorbia ingens resembles a traditional cactus, but actually belongs to the spurge family. The plant is characterised by its columnar growth with outgrowths, reaching a height of up to 12 metres. The bark is grey in colour and the branches are divided into segments, usually with two to three thorny outgrowths. The plant blooms with deep red flowers, which develop in autumn.

Care
Although the Euphorbia ingens is a relatively low-maintenance plant, it has specific care requirements both indoors and outdoors. The plant requires a very light and sunny location and can withstand drought. Therefore, it is important to only water the plant when the soil has completely dried out. The Euphorbia ingens is not hardy, so the plant is best brought indoors in severe frost.
