Origin
The Opuntia macrocentra, also known as the Black Spiny Prickly Pear, is a species of plant native to North America. The plant primarily grows in the desert regions of the southern United States and Mexico.

Characteristics
The Opuntia macrocentra is a cactus-like plant noticeable for its unique appearance. The plant has a shrub-like shape and can grow up to 60 cm high. The colour of the plant varies from green to near black, with long spines that give a spider-like appearance. The plant blossoms in the spring and produces beautiful flowers, typically in shades from yellow to red.

Care
In terms of care, the Opuntia macrocentra has typical cactus needs. This plant tolerates drought well and needs well-draining soil. The plant requires a lot of sun and is therefore suitable for planting in full sun. During the winter months, it is recommended to reduce watering to prevent root rot. The Opuntia macrocentra can also withstand lower temperatures, but cannot handle severe frost.
