Origin
The Austrocephalocereus dybowski is a unique species of cactus that finds its origin in South America. More specifically, the plant originates from the arid coastal areas of Peru and Ecuador. This hard, desert-like habitat has contributed to the formation of its distinctive resilience and its specific growth and survival characteristics.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Austrocephalocereus dybowski are its long, columnar trunks and the prominent dark spines that grow in clusters along the ribs of the trunks. The plant can reach considerable heights, up to 7 meters, and produces small, white flowers that bloom at night. The Austrocephalocereus dybowski is also known as Austrocylindropuntia dybowskii.
Care
In terms of the care of the Austrocephalocereus dybowski, it is important to emphasise that this cactus requires a sunny and well-drained environment. Due to its origin in arid, desert-like areas, the plant can withstand long periods of drought and only requires sporadic watering. In the winter months, the plant needs to be protected against freezing temperatures, as it is not frost-resistant.
