Origin
The Coccoloba uvifera, also known as the Seagrape, is a fruit bearing tree species that originally comes from tropical coastal regions in America. This type of tree can be found along the coasts of the Caribbean Sea, from Florida to Brazil, including the Caribbean region and the west coast of Africa.

Characteristics
The Coccoloba uvifera is characterised by its large, leathery leaves and is distinguished by its unique shape which resembles an umbrella. The tree can reach a height of about 8 to 10 meters and boasts striking, purple fruit that resembles grapes, hence the nickname 'Seagrape'. The fruits are small, sweet, and are often eaten by birds and sea creatures, but are also edible for humans.

Care
The Coccoloba uvifera prefers full sun and well-drained soil for optimal growth. The plant is extremely salt tolerant, making it ideal for coastal gardens. Although the tree is drought tolerant, regular, moderate irrigation will help ensure a healthy growth. Pruning is usually not necessary, unless it is to maintain the shape or remove dead branches.
