Origin
The Dracaena gymea, better known as the Australian spear lily, is originally from Australia. In the wild, this plant grows mainly on needle-shaped sandstone ridges and on the edge of rainforests. The indigenous population used the plant in the past for a variety of purposes, from food to medicine and materials for tools.

Characteristics
Dracaena gymea is a striking plant with an impressive appearance. The plant can grow up to six metres high and produces eye-catching spear-shaped flowers that shoot from a tall central stem. The foliage is reddish-brown to purplish in colour. The flowers are highly fragrant and attract bees and birds.

Care
Taking care of the Dracaena gymea is relatively straightforward, which is why it's a popular plant for both indoors and outdoors. The plant thrives in well-draining soil and needs full sun to partial shade. In the summer, the plant needs regular watering, while in the winter, the watering can be reduced. It is advisable to fertilise the plant annually for optimal growth.
