Origin
The Dracaena fragrans 'Janet Craig' has its roots in tropical Africa. The plant, also known as the dragon tree, was named after the daughter of a prominent American nurseryman. Originally, this species grows in the shady understory of tropical rainforests.
Characteristics
The most distinctive features of the Dracaena fragrans 'Janet Craig' are its dark green, shiny leaves. The leaves are oval in shape and can grow between 20 and 60 centimetres long. The plant grows slowly, but can eventually reach up to 1.80 metres high. The 'Janet Craig' is recognisable by its compact growth and almost bushy character.
Care
Dracaena fragrans 'Janet Craig' grows best in partial to bright, indirect light. The plant requires little water, it's sufficient to keep the soil lightly moist. During the winter period, watering can be reduced. The ideal room temperature for the 'Janet Craig' is between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. A high humidity benefits the plant, but is not essential. It is best to re-pot every two to three years to ensure optimal growth.
