Origin
Dracaena gymea is a plant species native to Australia. Its distribution is mainly along the coastal areas of New South Wales. The plant typically grows in open forests and on sandy, well-drained soils.
Characteristics
Dracaena gymea is a robust, evergreen plant that can reach a height of two up to six metres. The long, narrow leaves are leathery and can grow up to 1.5 metres in length. During the flowering period, the plant develops a striking, branched flower stem bearing large, red flowers at the top. The flowers are tubular in shape and can reach a length of about ten centimetres.
Care
Dracaena gymea requires a well-drained soil and tolerates both full sun and partial shade. The plant needs a moderate amount of water and is resistant to periods of drought. Regular removal of old leaves helps maintain a tidy appearance. A stable temperature and protection from severe frost will support healthy growth.
