Origin
The Dracaena surculosa, also known as the Spotted Dracaena or Gold dust Dracaena, is a tropical plant from West Africa. This plant has its roots in countries such as Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Cameroon. The genus Dracaena includes more than 120 species that can be found in many different climates, but the surculosa variant thrives best in the warm, humid tropical climate of its origin.

Characteristics
The Dracaena surculosa is a slender, upright evergreen shrub that can grow up to a height of 2.5 metres. The plant is recognisable by the dense growth of shiny, elliptical leaves that often have a striking spotted pattern. The leaves are usually rich green with yellow spots, hence the nickname 'Gold dust'. The surculosa rarely flowers, but when they bloom, they are often white to cream in colour and have a sweet fragrance.

Care
Given that the Dracaena surculosa originates from a tropical climate, this plant needs warm temperatures, high humidity levels and indirect sunlight. The plant cannot tolerate low temperatures and must be kept at a temperature of at least 13°C throughout the year. The Dracaena surculosa has a moderate need for water and the soil must dry out between waterings. Because the plant comes from a humid climate, it is recommended to regularly spray the leaves to keep the humidity level high.
