Origin
The Ficus elastica 'Robusta', also known as the Rubber Plant, hails from Southeast Asia. This exotic plant originally comes from the tropical rainforests of India and Indonesia. In the wild, it grows as a towering tree, but in other parts of the world, it is known as a popular houseplant.

Characteristics
A notable characteristic of the Ficus elastica 'Robusta' is its broad, thick, and shiny leaves that boast a deep green colour. Under optimal growth conditions, the plant can potentially reach up to three metres in height indoors. The sap in the trunk and leaves of the plant is remarkably elastic, which is where it gets its name from. The plant does not flower in our living rooms but produces small, inconspicuous flowers and fruits in its natural environment.

Care
Taking care of the Ficus elastica 'Robusta' does demand some effort. The plant enjoys lots of light, but direct sunlight can burn the leaves. Regular watering is crucial, but make sure that the roots are not left standing in water. Overly wet soil can lead to root rot. It is recommended to provide the plant with liquid feed for green houseplants at least once a month. Therefore, whilst the maintenance of the rubber plant is relatively straightforward, it does require a certain level of routine and attention.
