Origin
Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' has its origin in the Indian subcontinent, particularly in India and Bangladesh. This plant is part of the mulberry family (Moraceae). In the wild, the species grows into impressive trees, often regarded as sacred. Ficus benghalensis is valued there for its distinctive aerial roots and dense canopy. The ‘Audrey’ variety is a cultivated form, specially selected for use as a houseplant.
Characteristics
Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' stands out because of its velvety, dark green leaves with striking pale veins. The leaves are oval-shaped and can grow up to 20 cm long. The stems are sturdy and slightly hairy. Unlike many other species of Ficus, the leaves are less glossy and have a soft texture. This plant can be grown either as a compact pot plant or trained to a tree form.
Care
Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' thrives best in bright, indirect light and at a constant room temperature. The potting soil should be kept slightly moist, but not overly wet. Well-draining soil encourages healthy root growth. The plant does not tolerate prolonged dry air. Regularly wiping the leaves helps to keep the plant healthy.
