Origin
The Ficus carica, more commonly known as the fig tree, has its origins in Western Asia and the Mediterranean region. This species was one of the first to be cultivated by humans, with evidence of fig cultivation dating back to 5000 BC. The Ficus carica has spread across the world throughout the centuries, particularly in regions with a warm climate.

Characteristics
The Ficus carica is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 10 metres high. The leaves are large, up to 30 cm long, and have three to five lobes. The tree produces fruits, the well-known figs, which vary in size and colour, depending on the variety. The figs are juicy and sweet and contain numerous small seeds. The tree has a grey-white bark and emits the scent of latex when a branch is cut off.

Care
The Ficus carica requires a fairly large amount of sunlight and should be planted in a location with drainage to prevent stagnant water, which can cause root rot. Although the tree is drought-tolerant, regular watering is preferred, particularly during dry periods. Pruning of the tree is recommended to promote growth and maintain shape. Finally, it's important to protect the tree from cold temperatures, as it prefers a warm climate.
