Origin
The Anthurium andraeanum 'Sweet Dream' is a popular houseplant which originates from the rainforests of Colombia and Ecuador. This species belongs to the Araceae family and there are more than 800 different species in this family. The name 'Sweet Dream' was given to this specific variety due to its eye-catching flowering habit and luxurious colour palette.
Characteristics
'Sweet Dream' stands out for its large, heart-shaped leaves and unique inflorescences. These flower structures, also known as spathes, are typically pink in colour and have a glossy appearance. The leaves, which are shiny and dark green in colour, create a lovely contrast with the striking flowers. This plant can reach a height of around 60 cm with a similar spread.
Care
Taking care of the Anthurium andraeanum 'Sweet Dream' requires special attention. The plant needs indirect, bright light and must be kept away from direct sunlight as this can damage the leaves. This anthurium prefers warmer weather but can't tolerate temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius. It's important to keep the soil nicely moist, but be careful that the roots do not stand in water as this can cause root rot. Finally, regular fertilisation with a balanced houseplant feed can support the growth and blooming of the plant.
