DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Ficus altissima 'Yellow Gem', also known as the Council Tree, originates from Southeast Asia, primarily from countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Northeast India. In these locations, this ficus grows in the wild as a large tree in subtropical forests. It belongs to the mulberry family, also known as the Moraceae, which includes more than 800 species worldwide.

Characteristics
What stands out about the Ficus altissima 'Yellow Gem' are its large, green variegated leaves, which are characterised by bright, almost neon yellow edges. It belongs to the deciduous species, which shed their leaves as they adapt to changes in the environment or the season. In nature, the plant can reach up to 30 meters in height and typically develops aerial roots that grow down to the ground to provide additional support. In a pot culture, the plant will remain considerably smaller and rarely grows taller than two metres.

Care
Although the Ficus altissima 'Yellow Gem' has some tolerance for variations in care, the plant performs best under constant, warm temperatures and high humidity. It is recommended to place the plant in indirect, bright light, but keep it out of direct sunlight to prevent burn on the leaves. The plant needs well-draining soil and should be watered regularly, but should not be kept too wet to prevent root rot. It is advisable to fertilise the plant once a month during the growing period.
